Mutual Legal Assistance WG Webinars

20 Apr 2026 | Current and future initiatives International Co-operation WG, MLA

The ECBA’s Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) Working Group hosts webinars dedicated to mastering the complexities of cross-border criminal defence. These sessions are designed to gather leading experts from different jurisdictions and those actively involved in transnational defence-related activities.

Our goal is to foster an exchange of best practices and strategic considerations crucial for the effective representation and assistance of individuals or corporate entities entangled in cross-border investigations. Webinars delve into the practical challenges of challenging requests, ensuring procedural safeguards, and managing the implications of global surveillance. We cover key issues such as data localization, the use of European Investigation Orders (EIOs) and traditional Letters Rogatory, securing the confidentiality of communications, and successfully navigating the execution of freezing and confiscation orders abroad.

By analyzing recent case law and policy shifts—including the impact of e-evidence and direct cooperation with foreign authorities—we provide defence practitioners with the tools needed to protect their clients’ fundamental rights amidst expanding international cooperation mechanisms. Join us to gain essential insights, enhance your technical knowledge, and contribute to the collective defence effort across Europe.
