Get to know our Network

What makes this network special is not only the outstanding legal minds from across Europe, but the way they work together: collegially, openly, and united by a shared commitment to the rule of law. In this interview series, we take a closer look at the people behind this network.

  1. Our network often operates in real time: a question is raised, and shortly afterwards the right person steps forward. If you were that person: who are you, which country are you based in, in which area of criminal law do you specialise and what are you particularly passionate about in your professional work?

I am a counsel at VB Partners, No. 1 legal boutique in White-Collar Crime in Ukraine and the undisputed leader in Dispute Resolution. I am based in Kyiv, Ukraine.

I specialise in white-collar crime, as well as cross-border criminal matters. I represent the Clients before the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and courts and international institutions – INTERPOL and ECtHR.

In my professional work, I am especially passionate about protecting fundamental rights, ensuring fair trial standards, and providing strategic defence in complex and high-stakes cases.

I strongly believe in the role of defence lawyers in upholding the rule of law, particularly in challenging legal and geopolitical environments, and I value international cooperation as an essential element of effective criminal defence.

  1. Many experience this network not only as highly professional, but also as remarkably human, shaped by trust, friendship and a shared commitment to the rule of law in Europe. If we take a step beyond your professional role, what should we know about you as a person to understand why you are so keen to be part of this network?

Beyond my professional role, I am a person who deeply values integrity, mutual trust and open dialogue. I strongly believe that meaningful professional relationships are built on shared values as much as on legal expertise. Being part of a community where colleagues support one another, exchange experience across borders and stand together in defence of fundamental rights is very important to me. I am keen to be part of this network because it reflects not only a high professional standard, but also a genuine commitment to solidarity, respect and the rule of law.

  1. If a colleague were to ask you whether this network is truly worth joining, what would you say from your own experience? What makes it so special for you?

I became a member of the ECBA in 2024. What sets it apart is the exceptional quality of its members and the strong culture of cooperation and mutual respect. The ECBA is not just a platform for professional exchange, but a trusted community where defence lawyers can rely on one another in complex and sensitive cross-border cases. It is special for me because expertise, commitment to defending fundamental rights and maintaining high ethical standards are truly valued – even more than age or formal seniority. It is not just about professional relations – it is a platform where friends with the same values can be found.

  1. Finally, looking ahead: what do you hope for the future of the ECBA, and what contribution would you personally like to make?

Looking ahead, I hope the ECBA will continue to grow as a strong and influential voice for criminal defence lawyers across Europe, further strengthening cross-border cooperation and the protection of fundamental rights. I would like to contribute by actively sharing my experience, particularly in complex and cross-border criminal matters, engaging in professional dialogue, and supporting colleagues within the network.
